seismic surveys in the southern adriatic sea

Northern Petroleum Plc announces that on 29th November 2011 it completed a 600km 2D seismic data acquisition in offshore Southern Adriatic, Italy. Seismic acquisition commenced on 23rd November 2011 using the vessels ‘M/V Princess’, ‘Thor Guardian‘ and ‘Thor Server‘ and was completed within the prescribed six-day period. During the same days and approximately in the same area, atypical mass strandings of cetaceans (see 1 & 2) occurred; the relation between the two events can not be given for grant even though a correlation between seismic surveys and beaked whales strandings has been highlighted in the past.
