Frank Sherwood Rowland (June 28, 1927 – March 10, 2012)

Frank Sherwood Rowland, the “modern Galileo” won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1995) for his seminal work in understanding the depletion of the ozone layer and the effect of chlorofluorocarbons on this depletion.  He was active in atmospheric and environmental research.
